While listening to a local Hip-Hop radio station an eerie thought flashed across my mind. Is Hip-Hop still worth purchasing? Who still buys Hip-Hop music from the ORIGINAL artist? With all the MixTapes and MixTape DVD's being released by lesser known but locally acclaimed DJ talent, who needs to buy a full-length album? The last album I bought was nearly 2 years ago. I think it was a Nas or J-Live album. Everything since then has been either downloaded or copied. So this brings me back to my first question, Is Hip-Hop still worth buying? _________________ "I had a conversation wid hop

I'll cop a CD to sample the songs to mp3 that I don't have and can't find on Kazaa or BearShare. But I always support the artists I really like. Mixtapes are definately a big part of my repertoire too. Peace!

In this day and age its harder for an artist to get people to buy an album. Most hip-hop we all listen to is time-based. How many of us listen to a mix tap for 1, 2, or 3 years ago. We all may have one or two but they are mostly forgotten once the latest and greatest mix is in our hands. Most people pick up their latest Mix CD from a local shop for around $3, $5, or $10. Much less then what the artist will charge for their CD. The music is changing and that scares big business.
I don't even consider buying an album unless there is at least 4 songs I like on it. I'll get a song or two from itunes or rip the mp3 from somewhere else because ease of use and availablitly.
Even scarier question would be when was the last time you were in the record shop, Super store (Best Buy) or walking around the music isle of some megomart (Walmart, K-mart, etc.) and picked up a CD. |
